Getting started

  1. Download Klip.dmg, open it and drag Klip to your Applications folder.
  2. Open Klip. It lives in the menu bar; there is no Dock icon.
  3. Copy something, then press ⇧⌘V to open the Klip panel.
  4. Use the arrow keys to pick a clip and press ↩ to paste it.

Klip requires macOS 27 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon.

Klip for iPhone and iPad

  1. Install Klip on your iPhone or iPad. It requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later.
  2. Make sure your iPhone and your Mac are signed in to the same Apple Account, and that iCloud sync is on in Klip on your Mac (Settings → General).
  3. Open Klip. Your history appears after the first sync, which can take a few minutes for a large history.
  4. Tap a clip to copy it. Tap the paste button at the bottom right to add what's on your iPhone's clipboard.

Frequently asked questions

Pressing Return copies the clip but doesn't paste it.

To paste directly into other apps, Klip needs Accessibility access. Open Klip Settings → General and click Open Accessibility Settings…, then turn on Klip under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Device Control and Data Access. What this permission is for.

If Klip is already listed and switched on but paste still doesn't work (this can happen after an update), remove Klip from the list with the − button, then add it again.

How do I change the shortcut that opens Klip?

Open Settings → Shortcuts, click the shortcut button and press the new key combination. It must include ⌘, ⌥ or ⌃. Press Esc to cancel.

I hid the menu bar icon. How do I get to Settings?

Launch Klip again from Spotlight, Launchpad or the Applications folder. When Klip is already running, this opens Settings. You can also press ⌘, while the Klip panel is open.

How do pinboards work?

Pinboards are the colored tabs at the top of the panel. Click + to create one, then right-click any clip and choose Pin to. Pinned clips are kept forever, no matter how long your history is.

Press ⇥ and ⇧⇥ to move between pinboards. Press ⌫ on a pinned clip to remove it from the pinboard.

How long does Klip keep my history?

You choose: a day, a week, a month (the default) or unlimited, in Settings → General → History capacity. Older clips are removed automatically; pinned clips are never removed.

How does iCloud sync work?

When iCloud sync is on, your clipboard history and pinboards are stored in your private iCloud database and shared between the Macs signed in to the same Apple Account. A new Mac downloads your history once, then only changes.

Images larger than 10 MB stay on the Mac that copied them. Because your Macs share one history, the history capacity setting applies to all of them. If sync says to sign in, open System Settings and sign in to iCloud.

Can I stop Klip from saving something I copy?

Select the clip in the panel and press ⌫ to delete it. To erase everything, use Clear Clipboard History in Settings → General. Klip never saves passwords: copies from Apple's Passwords app, a browser's password manager, and apps that mark copies as concealed or transient are ignored.

How do I move my history over from Paste?

Choose Import from Paste… from the Klip menu bar icon or in Settings → General. Klip reads a copy of Paste's data on this Mac and brings over your clips and pinboards. Paste itself is not modified.

What is "Three-finger click is a middle click"?

A small extra: with this setting on, clicking with three fingers on a Magic Mouse or trackpad acts as a middle mouse button, handy for opening links in a new tab or closing tabs. On a trackpad, three-finger taps count too when Tap to Click is on. It uses the same Accessibility permission as direct paste.

My clips don't show up on my iPhone or iPad.

Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud sync is turned on in Klip on your Mac. On your iPhone, pull down on your clips to check for changes and see when Klip last synced, or tap the Klip button at the top right and look at Status in Settings. It also tells you if you need to sign in to iCloud. Large histories and images can take a few minutes to arrive the first time.

Images larger than 10 MB stay on the Mac that copied them and show as "On Mac only".

Why doesn't my iPhone add clips automatically?

iOS doesn't let apps watch the clipboard in the background. Instead, tap Klip's paste button to add what's on your clipboard. Because you tap the system paste button, iOS doesn't ask "Allow Paste?" each time.

How do I pin a clip on my iPhone?

Long-press the clip and choose Pin To, then pick a pinboard. Pinboards are created on your Mac. To see one pinboard, tap the filter button at the top right.

How do I uninstall Klip?

Quit Klip from its menu bar icon, then move Klip from Applications to the Trash. To also remove your local history, delete ~/Library/Application Support/Klip. On iPhone or iPad, delete the app as usual. If you used iCloud sync, you can remove Klip's iCloud data in System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage.
